Printing Guidelines

Overview

All PCs in the open walk-in labs, CBA 214 & 215, can print to either one of the two network printers in CBA 215. There are no printers in CBA 214. Students should not log on to PRINTMAN in the classroom labs, CBA 207 and CBA 211. There is no printing capability for the PCs in the CBA 120 Study Room.

In order to print, students must login to the network domain, PRINTMAN. A student's userid will be identical to the one for their UAH email and WebCT accounts (See Determining your UAH email userid for additional information). Student's password is their 9-digit "A" number. If you need help, Lab assistants are available in the open lab at all times. Students can still use the PCs in the open lab without logging on to their PRINTMAN account.

Things for you to know

  • Printing may be slow at times when there are many people printing.
  • Always click on Print Preview before you print! Make sure you know what your print job will look like on screen before actually sending it to the printer.
  • Send a print job only once. Since your job is sent to a print queue shared by other users, your document may take several minutes to print.
  • If you do not see your document print out, go to the lab assistant's desk and ask whoever is on duty to check and see if it is in the "queue". Where there are many people printing, it may take a while to get your document.
  • If the printer is out of paper, toner, etc., report the problem to the lab assistant.
  • It is your responsibility to keep your password secure and to Log Out when leaving a computer. Failure to do so will almost inevitably result in others printing on your account. You are responsible for all printing that occurs on your account.
  • There will be NO REFUNDS.

FAQ's

Why is printing now free?

The University will be absorbing the costs associated with printing temporarily until a campus-wide pay-for-print system is
implemented similar to the one currently in place in the UAH Library.

Does the lab fee I pay cover these printing costs?

No. The lab fees paid by students go to buy equipment and software for the computer labs, to employ lab assistants and to upgrade and maintain the computers in the classroom and open labs. The costs for paper and toner are not covered by lab fees.

Does the number of copies I don't use this semester keep rolling over to next semester?

No. The number of allowable copies you have to satisfy genuine UAH course requirements is reset each semester.
