Human Resource Management Minor

A Minor in Human Resource Management will help students understand how to effectively manage people in a variety of settings.

Human Resource professionals manage an organization's people. Their responsibilites include recruiting and selecting workers, employee training and development, managing relationships with employees and unions, as well as administering wages, salaries and benefits.

A minor within this field can help facilitate a career in Human Resource Management in a wide range of organizations, including federal and local government, major defense and aerospace firms, manufacturing firms, retail and service organizations. Human resouce managers are emplyed by all sizes of organizations from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies.

In addition to facilitating a career within this field, a minor in Human Resource Management can greatly help students majoring in professional fields such as Psychology, Sociology, Nursing, Education, and Engineering. The expertise learned will benefit students by allowing them to acquire the supervisory skills needed to effectively manage subordinates.

Students can minor in human resource management by taking 18 semester hours of human resource management courses. Fifteen specific hours are required, along with one 400 level course chosen from the given list.

A minor in human resource management includes the following courses:
MGT 301 Managing Organizations
3 hrs.
MGT 361* Organizational Behavior
3 hrs.
MGT 363 Human Resource and Labor Relations Management
3 hrs.
MGT 460 Employee Staffing and Development
3 hrs.
MGT 462 Employment Law for Managers
3 hrs.
*PY 402, Industrial and Organizational Psychology may be used as a substitute for MGT 361.
3 hrs. selected from the following list of courses:
